with FP awareness campaign and service delivery

FriendlyCare with a group of health advocate and professional providers, set foot in a far flung territory region of Caraga to conduct a five-days Family Planning Outreach Mission. This outreach is a continuing endeavor of FriendlyCare Foundation to help the residents in the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) by providing Family Planning services for maternal and child health which also helps promote the quality of life of women and their families in the rural communities.

The mission is FriendlyCare’s response to the call of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte according to Executive Order dated January 9, 2017 which aims to attain and sustain the zero unmet need for modern family planning.

The medical mission was conducted in five municipalities namely Cabadbaran, Nasipit, Butuan, San Jose and Dinagat Islands. Bilateral Tubal Ligation and Progestin Sub-Dermal Implant Insertion were the services given to almost 400 patients.

Caraga is a highly populated region in Mindanao with total population of 2.59 million according to 2015 Population Census (2015 PSA). Butuan is the most densely populated city in the region and also with the fastest growth rate.

Population growth compromises the standard of living of people in a community, resulting to the likelihood of poverty that leads to malnutrition and various illnesses not to mention out of school youths and unemployment. Family Planning plays a vital role in preserving the quality of life as it aids in the stabilization of the present and future financial security of every family. Responsible parenthood of spacing births and planning the number of children in a family, can help alleviate poverty. The parents will be able to make ends meet for their kids; there would be plenty of food on the table, the basic needs will not be a common problem and the couple will get to enjoy quality time with each other.

The medical mission was made possible in collaboration with the group of women from five municipalities through the combined effort of FriendlyCare and various government partners. The Office of Commission on Population in Caraga spearheaded by its Regional Director Alexander Makinano along with respective members of local government unit, extended unparalleled assistance to the family planning team as well as to the patients.
FriendlyCare, committed to its core values, has successfully carried out this mission, delivering family planning services with excellence, integrity and service commitment. The FriendlyCare Family Planning team along with the government partners delivered the services to the patients with respect, compassion and in a friendly manner. The patients showed gratitude and content during one on one counselling for offering them the right to information and choice.

FriendlyCare’s mission in the South marked a milestone to the Mindanaoans. The well-endowed land of Caraga which occupies the northeastern section of Mindanao is not only rich in their God-given natural resources, but also inhabited by hospitable and resilient people.
